By this time, we should have more info on the two shelters (NCCF & CCHFP) and Hazel will be letting us know about her visit at SOME.

Lets get together to bring back what we have individual discussed and saw from the site visits while its fresh on our minds. This will be also to figure our next step andkeep us rolling as some shelters may want to hear back from us soon on our position. Bring any material you find would be useful (photos, brochures, notes and etc).
Also, lets try and coordinate that at least one person from each of the visits are able to make it. Send emails to director@afh-dc.org to confirm your attendance. Thanks!

Pathways to Housing -- visit with Linda Kaufman

Hey guys, sorry for the very late notice and the now back-to-back-to-back visit. Hopefully one or two (or a few...) others can make it. Pathways to Housing is a halfway house offering services to help the homeless find permanent shelter/residence. They're closely linked to DC's Downtown Business Improvement District (which used to offer a good amount of homeless services before funding was cut), and the contact has a lot of info to share with us.

I spoke with Jean Michel Giraud from the shelter - we are scheduled to meet with him to get a closer look at what they do and how they operate. The date is Tuesday April 24 at 6:30 pm (like most of our other committee meetings). Sorry for the close proximity to the other visit Joe set up, but hopefully people can still make it there.

Good news!

Spoke with Alicia from National Center for Children and Families and we talked about our possible involvement and setting up a visit. Along with the visit, she mentioned two projects, one along the lines of decorating which basically will be painting and the other is designing the basement (will be completely clear) to accomodate a Donation Shop (believe this idea was mentioned at 4/12 meeting). Pretty exciting. She also mentioned they have acquired racks and tables from the closing of a nearby GAP.
