Bethania - 4/15/08 Follow Up
meeting last night. This email is a brief re-iteration of last nights
meeting and plans for next weeks meeting. Also, big ups to Lauren and
Rayya for providing tasty vittles for last nights meeting.
4/15/08 Meeting: The first
part of the meeting was spent going over the bubble diagrams that people had
produced. Several good ideas and similarities were brought up for
discussion. Several schemes showed a “neighborhood” approach to the campus
layout. Several also showed development being contained to one side of the
site to leave open space. Many of the schemes placed the community center
near the entrance and used this as a powerful object/presence relating to site
entry.
After discussing the presented
layouts, the group did a short, but powerful, exercise in which everyone wrote
down three important concepts/ideas about the program and site layout. We
then grouped these according to similarities. Several themes emerged. (You
can see the actual concepts at www.afh-dc.org) The concepts that
emerged were:
Identity
Economy/Efficiency
Community/Connections
Hierachy of Bldgs/Spaces
4/22/08 Meeting: Same place,
same time. Please continue with site massing and bubble diagrams.
Take the above mentioned concepts, and begin to think about them in more detail
and begin to work them into the program. See how they relate and can work
off of each other or against one another. Please bring material to present
and discuss.
Also, if you presented something at
the last meeting, please post it to the website or send a digital copy to me so
I can. Thanks.
See you
then!
