Meeting Notes .03.05.08
Hello crew,
An brief update on what we talked about:
[attendees]
Joe
Michelle
Steve
[location]
Zorba's
[discussion]
> We agreed Wed as a meeting day can work for now on.
> The discussion began on what was said from the last meeting. As a
group, we were going to figure a strategy to respond to the issues.
> We discussed how possibly the client didn't understand what we were
trying to achieve and how it actually works (even we may want to
question, if we know it works).
> We decide that we take a step back and do some research and acquire
more information on some of the concepts we are trying to achieve.
> We talked that we need to respond to each of Dr. Uzoma's concerns
individually and make it work with our design. It was expected that
there will need to be some sacrifices, on both ends.
> We wrote down the different topics/issues and assigned one to
everyone at the meeting.
TOPICS:
> TRANSPARENCY/TRANSLUCENCY - Steve
> SECURITY -
- Address at a Campus (eg. gate, low wall) & Local level (eg.
individual classroom blocks, comp room)
> DUST/WEATHERING -
> CEILING - Joe
- Materials
- Light
> POWER/ELECTRICITY - Michelle
- Fan
- Electric Generator
- Solar
Of the topics not assigned, can someone volunteer and email everyone
that they are taking on that issue. If all the topics are taken, feel
free to do research in any of them. As usual, even do you are
"assigned" to one, feel free to explore other topics. At minimal, the
one you were assigned to, we would like some info on.
> Joe mentioned that he will try and approach UNIFI directly about
fundraising to get some sort of budget for the project and milestone
dates in place.
> The group agrees that we would design the school as if active
building systems weren't present (elec, AC, and etc) as much as possible
to achieve comfortable learning environments.
> Joe mentioned that for future meetings with the client, we need to
clearly communicate what is in our heads of what we are doing and how it
works to the client. Leaving the meetings, the client needs to have a
full understanding.
> Michelle mentioned maybe having more frequent updates to the client
to keep them in the loop. A disconnect is possibly occuring with the
spans of time which Dr. Uzoma is traveling.
> Steve mentioned an idea of using a Kalwall system placed on a track
and can be position in place of the clerestory area and out of the way
as needed. Joe was interested in the idea but mentioned that he would
like to see it worked out first on paper/computer before before saying
it would work with the project. Also, Joe metioned a scaled mock up of
it (here in US) would be good to ensure it works before construction
over in Nigeria (probably similar treatment for any other possibly
complicated components).
Believe that's it. Feel free to add anything missed.
